The Alexandria Regional Police Academy was accredited by the Louisiana Police Officer Standards and Training Council on April 5, 1978. Our Academy serves the Sheriff's Departments from 9 Central Louisiana parishes and the Municipal departments for about 45 different municipalities. The Basic Police Academy is a 13 week Louisiana P.O.S.T. certified academy.

The Academy Staff consists of 4 full time officers and one clerk. There are two academies held each year, one beginning in March and the other beginning in August. In each Academy there are between 20 to 36 cadets. All cadets entering must be employed by a Law Enforcement Agency and must
pass a physical readiness test.

The Academy is also responsible for the Alexandria Police Department's Citizens Academy . This informational Academy is open to the Citizens of Alexandria and the surrounding communities. For more information, please contact us at (318) 441-6500 or e-mail a
