Uniform Division
The Uniform Division is the largest and most visible Division of the Alexandria Police Department. Every officer, regardless of his or her assignment, is responsible for carrying out the mission of the department; namely, protection of life, liberty and property; enforcement of all laws and ordinances; preservation of the peace and public order, prevention and repression of crime; detection of violators of the law, and the apprehension of violators of the law.

Every year the police department sees an increase in calls. Last year, in 2004, officers responded to over 30,000 calls for service. Some of the calls for service include noise violations, traffic accidents, domestic disputes and even homicides. In Alexandria, police officers on average arrest over 3000 - 7000 persons per year for various criminal offenses.
The day shift works from 5:45am to 5:45pm. The night shift works from 5:45pm to 5:45am. DWI Units are on duty 24/7
