Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 20 years of age at time of application and 21 years of age at time of appointment.
  • Must have a valid Louisiana's Driver's License.
  • Must meet U.S. Citizenship requirements
  • 2 Year College Degree (Preferably in Criminal Justice), 5 years experience ,or prior Military Service
  • No felony convictions as a juvenile or adult, and cannot be on probation.
  • No domestic violence convictions and cannot be a subject of any domestic violence.
  • Must have a good character and reputation.

The pre-examination materials have been developed by the Office of State Examiner as a helpful guide to individuals who wish to prepare for the entrance competitive Firefighter and Police Officer examinations for the Louisiana Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service. These booklets contain sample questions and other reference materials that are similar to those which you may encounter on the actual tests. We have provided links to the pre-exam booklets below. If you are unable to print from these links, you may request a copy of the pre-examination booklet from the civil service board in the jurisdiction where you wish to take the examination.

 

IMPORTANT NOTE:

The Office of State Examiner can neither accept nor process applications. You must submit your application to the civil service board where you wish to take an examination.

Please do not send your completed application to the Office of State Examiner.

The examinations for Firefighter and Police Officer are the only two examinations which can be taken in one jurisdiction for the purpose of having a score reported to another jurisdiction.  The qualification requirements may differ among some jurisdictions, so you may wish to contact the jurisdiction where you want to have your score reported in addition to the jurisdiction where you plan to take the test, in order to make sure you can meet the requirements for the application process in both jurisdictions.
